Are you happier as MSL or Medical Advisor? – click here to download the overview
In many companies, the MSL role is seen as a starting position for professionals who really endeavour to become Medical Advisors and Medical Managers.I do not agree with this way of thinking.
I believe you need to be a different type of person to be truly happy and effective as an MSL or Medical Advisor.
Both roles are challenging in their own right, both MSLs and MAs need to have a solid scientific background, you need to be analytical, precise and hardworking. You need to be able to have peer to peer discussions with Medical Experts, you always keep the patients best interests in mind and you are creative, resilient, smart and sociable. But the “perfect” MSL or Medical Advisor have other things that make them tick and energizes them.
Does this mean you cannot take on a role if it doesn’t fully suit your personality type? Ofcourse not! But you do need to be aware there are things you may need to work on a bit harder than others, as they don’t come naturally.
In this document I give you some idea of the difference between personalities of the MSL and the MA.
** Disclaimer** ofcourse, this is a huge generalisation. Just trying to make my point. It’s also meant as a bit of joke to make you think.
